Like Steam We Shall Rise

by Zamounde Allie

Dedicated to the spirit that lives on

A Black man died today
Yesterday I say
Killed yesterday
Prophesy fulfilled today
A Black man died
But he was our women too
You see we are one
Said and done
Separated only by our abilities under the sun
I see hate
I know you can relate
To the burning
The lies hidden by debate
With the truth as the rate
Wall Street states
The earnings
At our expense
But we dispense the yearning
To relieve the stress
To put the bull to rest
I say a Black man died, killed yesterday
The TV news briefly said
Went back to their meter in the red
The mirror White school killings
A small reflection of our ceiling
Today the steam rises
The clouds are forming
Ready to rain
To storm on the parade
Closely the day of the massacre-raid
Don’t get the Negroes mad
Don’t inflame their feelings
Keep 'em passive playin' the game and glad
“Let My Fire Be!”
“Can you hear the silent scream” I said in
How quickly the tables will turn
And the future fools will learn
That no matter how long
Even if as big as King Kong
They will also burn
and the Q will be
In the streets of space
We will celebrate the 4th of them
Taste! Reality with sauce
No human can be boss
A black man died yesterday
His spirit lives on in you with no loss of steam
Rise today for the we is you
