United?

by Victor A. Young

Separate and unequal, what's the deal?
As a prism to light, what color is real?
As light comes with day, and darkness to night.
A racial war flurries for which is right.
Separate and unequal as we live today.
United we could be, if we wanted this way.
As brothers who stand before their father's eyes.
One is honest to God, and the other stands and lies.
One is gifted and has all that is given in life.
The other angry and struggles with strife.
Separate and equal I say to you.
Believe there is a day and see it too.
United we stand to conquer in God's might.
Divided we live because we know it's right.
Together we stand united as one.
Divided, one has it all, and the other has none.
Separate and unequal we view justice each day.
Separate and equal, I dare not say.
Is it an illusion for which we must pay?
Or confusion to keep the way.
Separate and unequal and all it entails.
How much love will take to balance the scales?
