Imonee's Anthem

by Rosalyn Renise Alexander

When others find there places walking lightly through the land mines,

I find my spaces walking boldly in the front line.

As their speech tone lowers to speak easy not to ravage,

My head becomes steady as a destined hungry savage

I yell firmly to ensure ratification,

but voices in my head scream no assimilation.

I found my home in a neo classic natural movement,

braids, locks, Afros, Nappy Roots,

Grovement!

Poetic language, conscious thoughts, educated minds,

Knowledge is my reefers, power liquor, Marcus, Malcolm, Martin, intertwined

No whore or bitches here, no pimps, players, or bling bling,

Just fine ass brothers, dimes,

and everything else in between,

Yahweh, Nation of Islam, Black Israelites unite,

don't need a acre or a mule to when this fight,

Ticking bombs like ticking people eventually self-destruct

channel your energy to a place of peace and good luck,

Once was a lost and bewildered Black Girl,

Who grew into a Black Woman, in a Poetic Lyrist rhythmic world!
