Poor Child

by Nigel S. Daring

Rain falls as thoughts flow
The ground wets with falling tears
Rain drops in pitter-patter beat,
memories flood lyrics to complete heart wrenching song
Children play wet games, reminding of childhood missed
How could they have done this?
Only a child, an innocent child

The bright red roses embrace the water with joy
The flower of youth destroyed
Flood streaming down the street
Life has lost direction, wrapped in pain and confusion
How could they have done this?
Only a child, an innocent child

Water flowing in cracks and crevices
Ah, the lesions and bruises, the signs of abuses
Water reaching deep down
This agony is an endless abyss, swaddled by loneliness
Sunlight will never come; darkness defines life
How could they have done this?
Only a child, an innocent child
