So, Why Not Me?

by H.L. Nichols

You seem to be happiest with him,
Itís as if you like him to hit it and leave,

Unlike bed partners youíve called boyfriends,
Iíve been your surrogate man through the tears,

So, Why not me?

Itís my shoulder you cry on,
Been here through their countless affairs,

Days like today I had hoped youíd gotten married,
So I would have gone on with my life and died,

So, Why not me?

Iíve loved you for Ĺ a score and 3 years,
The DJ spins Someone to Hold by 112,

Sensually we dance the dance of 1,000 amors,
Through poetic verse came together at least 999 more,

So, Why not me?

You sincerely gave yourself to please him,
But Iím the one who feels you, wants to please you,

Weíve traversed this road BACK AND FOURTH before,
Iíve loved but my love for you wonít let me go,

So, Why not me?

Beloved I want to do right by you,
Be by your side for better or for worse,

If itís love you said you want,
See Iím the man you need,

So, Why not me?
