Being black is a blessing but it's not a crutch,
It's the one thing about you that no one can touch,
It becomes your history with spirit and pride,
And defines the great beauty that you hold inside.
It shows off our culture with passion and grace,
And gives you an identity that can't be replaced,
It shows off our ancestors and the love that they gave,
From the essence of man to the heart of the slave,
It shows off our power and support to each other,
As we all come together as sisters and brothers,
And despite all our setbacks we still stand strong,
For we would not accept it when they said we didn't belong,
And as the future unfolds we'll continue to rise,
And be seen as a blessing in everyone's eyes,
So when you look in the mirror realize what you are,
In the space called life we are the shooting star,
And on the pedestals of man we'll stand at the top,
35 million strong and we can't be stopped.
