7 Haikus of the Spirit

by Marilyn Ferrell

Psalm of the spirit,
Running deep like the Congo,
Hush me not, troubles.

Whispering promise,
Angels tears caress my face,
Woman-child, breathe.

Heart, body, and soul,
Longs the beautiful world of
Love, joy, and meaning.

Passion afire,
Laud! The Sacrificial Gift,
A new beginning.

A jasmine incense,
Casts a sweet, righteous scent,
Penniless, yet rich.

Swans mimic my grace,
Sugar-n-spice, I’m made of,
Jazz is what I breathe.

Flames of oppression,
Awake, thunder! Testify,
No, I shall not move.
