Mankind Fought A War

by Carmen

The silence was awesome, deadly
a stillness was in the air
not a human soul was stirring
not one was left to care,
The wind was defiantly blowing
as if to finish a final chore
to deliver a final message
you see "Mankind Fought A War"

No joyful sounds of laughter
not even sorrow for the land,
the sun would shine but who could know
all dreams were buried in the sand
No way to escape the horror, hurt or pain
on silent ears the warning fell,
the final seconds came
Then you see all hope was gone,
because next they closed the door
the door to hope, the door to cope
You see "Mankind Fought A War"

The death of a world is in progress
stars shimmer on a gray and dull scene
a passing Angel peers down,
a sigh on his lips
as he flicks a speckle off his wing.
Yes, the silence was deadly, awesome
no more blessings to it would outpour
no more tears would be shed,
no words to be spoken,
You see, "Mankind Fought A War".
