Single Parenthood

by Camille McKenzie-Lane

To: Single parents who are struggling to raise their children on their own.

Tired, frustrated, weak yet strong,
Everyday, any day you've got to go on,
Meeting needs, sewing seeds, sometimes even becoming stern,
So that life can be taught to young minds that yearn to learn.

Schedule shuffling, bus catching, and games you try never to miss,
Showing support to build self-esteem is always on top of your list,
PTA meetings, teachers' greetings, and school involvement's a must,
Summer camp tuition, bake sale missions, and arts and crafts are a plus.

Bandaging scraped knees and wounded fingers, the unusual situations that you see,
Becoming a mother, father, teacher and nurse, you are more than you dreamt you could be,
Feeling great, then running late, while trying to hustle through traffic,
Your job you need, so you try indeed to stop your turmoil and your panic.

Laborious work, the constant work and superhuman dedication,
To them you are, in fact, a shining star in so many, many situations,
Trying your hardest never to let them down, even at times when you are exhausted,
Struggling and hoping that your hard work will pay off, so in God you have trusted.
