I Am Black and I'm Proud!

by Camille McKenzie-Lane

I am black and I’m proud!
Walking into a crowded room I leave everyone spellbound,
With my proud gait, my endless legs and my ample bottom that’s round,
Introducing the rich mocha color of my beautiful, dark, tan skin,
My high cheek bones, luscious full lips, and my eyes sparkling with a grin.

I am black and I’m proud!
Walking across a crowded room as the only minority,
With my head held high, a bounce in my stride, feeling like royalty,
My intelligence zoning in from the conversation that I carry,
Breaking barriers of the past that being black means to be sorry.

****
This poem was inspired by myself as a black woman.
I've written many poem for many occassions and people,
but I never really wrote one based on my heritage.
